Three Lessons from Three Students On Nov 20, 2007, our tuition centre had three students enrolled and this is the largest number of students enrolled in a single date since our opening a month ago. During that month, it seemed that the number of students did not turn out as we expected and it comes on the lower end of our estimation and we experienced a little nadir during then. The three new students enrolled, as they are from different channels, was indeed an encouragement to us and most of all, I learnt three invaluable lessons from that. Lesson 1 - "Patience' from student A Do not get disappointed when you do not get the result right away. The first "student A" came from past free seminar, that we held regularly in order to get more students to know us. On that particular free seminar, I remembered that there are total 4 students enrolled and "Student A" is one of them. As we did our best to prepare for the seminar content, none of them enrolled our course eventually. This is quite an anticlimax as we thought we did our work good enough and our offer was attractive that at least some of them enrol. Unexpectedly, "student A" came back to enrol our course after 4 full weeks. From this event, I learnt "patience", one of the spiritual fruit, and this reminds me of preaching to others. From time to time, I label someone as "unsavable" and will simply let go and do not really care to share the gospel with those friends. From that lesson I know I have got to preach to others and wait patiently as I do not know when that seeds will grow in their hearts. Lesson 2 - "Quality does count" from student B "Student B" is a referral - This reminds me when we are doing our job, the results will turn out sweet. Lesson 3 - "Always doing quality work" from student C "Student C" enrolled after attending our free seminar, a seminar that have only one students attended. Even though there are only one student, PKeung still prepares well and conducts a full-hour lesson as usual and eventually that student enrolled. PKeung's behaviour encourages and reminds me, under any circumstances, that we should do our quality work and do not hasten to finish when the environment looks bleak. On the other hand, a parable from also comes to my mind, "If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of the them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninty-nine on the hills and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray" Matthew 18:12-13. For me, no matter how many students come to our free seminar, even one of them enrolled is an acknowledgement to our works.
